A Tuscan Pilgrimage
The Historic Via Francigena: Lucca to Siena
Dates: May 2 – 10, 2023 • Price: $3490
Imagine yourself walking through quintessential Tuscan countryside without a care in the world, listening only to the sound of your footsteps, on the ancient Via Francigena. The Via Francigena (pronounced fran-CHEE-gen-u) is an ancient pilgrim route that extends from Canterbury, England to Rome, Italy and is 1,200 miles long. This 54-mile section of the route is particularly beautiful, beginning in Lucca, Italy and ending in Siena, Italy. Each day we will walk through small villages and evenings in charming and historic Tuscan towns.
My wife and I have been around the world and consider ourselves seasoned travelers, but both of us shed a few tears at the airport departing this charmed country [and our guide]. I’m still struggling to articulate what a momentous experience this was for us, but suffice it to say that I will never forget my time in Bhutan.
